FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS BUILT AROUND CLOSE QUARTER MANEUVERS, TIMING AND ADAPTABILITY

Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) is a family of martial-arts systems known for their sophisticated approach to weapons and close-range fighting. At Hastartes Tactical, our primary system is Pekiti-Tirsia Kali, a Filipino martial art with a strong emphasis on tactical maneuvers using footwork, proficiency in edged and impact weapons, and continuous development of fighting skills. Students will learn how to manage distance, timing, execute dynamic maneuvers and pressure in rapidly changing scenarios. We study the system as a living martial art; learning and understanding combat principles, developing attributes, and pressure testing our skills. You’ll learn through progressive drills, scenario-based applications, and controlled pressure testing.

Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is the family system of the Tortal Clan of the Panay Islands, Negros Occidental, Philippines. The current headmaster is Grandtuhon Leo T. Gaje Jr.

THE DOCE METHODOS SYSTEM

Our primary foundation is Doce Methodos or The 12 Methods Of Pasugat. The system provides a structured framework for developing the fundamental principles of Pekiti-Tirsia Kali; rather than treating techniques as isolated movements, training develops the ability to recognize relationships between:

Movement → Timing → Distance → Position → Attack → Counterattack

As students progress, they develop greater understanding, coordination, and ability to adapt.

OTHER SYSTEMS

In conjunction with pasugat, students will also learn the following systems;

Pasunod: The contradas system or non-force on force contact
Recontradas/Recontras: Recounters and advanced manipulations
Tri-V: A modern, modular system created in the 1990's combining principles and concepts from Doce Methodos and 64-Attacks, along with newly formulated striking patterns and forms.
64-Attacks: A format favored by Tuhon Bill McGrath and Pekiti-Tirsia International that is synonymous to Doce Methodos.

We Believe in Life, Not in Death - We hold all life precious and as warriors it is within our power to protect and preserve such life. The taking of another life is only justified when your own survival or the survival of your clan is put in jeopardy. Therefore, we must do our utmost to respect others and not invite war onto ourselves if at all possible. The warrior understands the outcome of a combative engagement is final and irreversible and so exhibits more love, compassion and care for others.

We Believe in Health, Not in Sickness - A warrior understands his/her responsibilities as protector of the clan or tribe and therefore must maintain good physical, intellectual and spiritual health. To believe in life means one should also believe good health. One must be physically and mentally conditioned to ensure success and prevail in combat and survival.

We Believe in Success, Not in Failure - We will be successful in achieving any endeavor we pursue by any means necessary. In battle, not only will we prevail, we will dominate. We will survive any combative engagement and our enemies will not. It is this "never give up, never surrender" mindset that ultimately ensures our survival.

HISTORY

Officially founded in 1897, Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is the indigenous close-quarter combat system of the Tortal family from Negros Occidental in the Philippines. Its current headmaster and sole inheritor is Grand Tuhon Leopoldo Tortal Gaje Jr., who learned this combat system from his grandfather, Grand Tuhon Conrado B. Tortal.

Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is trained and executed in combat and survival by military operators, law enforcement officers, and citizens across the free world. Pekiti-Tirsia Kali became the official martial arts combat system of the Philippine Marine Corps and for a time, was the only Filipino Martial Arts system recognized as the official war-fighting doctrine by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

There are currently several different factions of Pekiti-Tirsia Kali all over the world.
